About

About Money & Planet

Money & Planet exists to make personal finance understandable and actionable — no jargon, no hidden agendas, just clear guides backed by real research.

Our Mission

Most personal finance writing online is either too theoretical (textbook explanations of compound interest) or too product-pushing (every “review” is a hidden affiliate funnel). Money & Planet sits in the middle: we explain the math, cite real sources, and help you make smarter decisions without trying to sell you a credit card.

Who We Are

Money & Planet is written by Chris Steve — a software engineer with a deep interest in personal finance, behavioral economics, and AI. Chris started the site to share the kind of practical money writing he wished he’d had when he was learning to manage his own finances: clear, research-backed, and free of the get-rich-quick noise.

Our Editorial Standards

  • Research-backed: Every claim is supported by cited sources — peer-reviewed studies, IRS publications, Federal Reserve data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or reports from institutions like Vanguard and Morningstar.
  • No sponsored content: Advertisers don’t influence what we write. Display ads help keep the site free, but they have zero editorial influence.
  • No paid placements: When we recommend a product, it’s because we believe it’s genuinely useful, not because someone paid for the recommendation.
  • Affiliate disclosure: Some links may earn us a commission. We disclose these clearly. See our Disclaimer for details.
  • Regular updates: Financial rules change. We review and update key content to ensure accuracy.
  • Human-written: All articles are researched, written, and edited by humans. We don’t publish AI-generated filler.

What We Cover

  • Money Mindset & Behavioral Finance: How cognitive biases — endowment effect, sunk cost fallacy, anchoring — systematically cost people money, and what to do about it.
  • Investing & Markets: Practical guides on index funds, ETFs, tax-loss harvesting, asset allocation, and building wealth without a financial advisor.
  • Saving & Budgeting: Real strategies for reducing expenses, auditing subscriptions, and optimizing your cash flow — paired with our free calculators.
  • Earning More: Side hustles, salary negotiation, and income strategies that actually move the needle.
  • Minimalist Living: Intentional spending and frugal living without sacrificing quality of life.

Our Free Tools

We built six interactive calculators — mortgage, auto loan, loan, budget planner, investment growth, and FIRE — that anyone can use without signup. They’re the same kind of tools financial advisors charge to access, made free for everyone.
